Summer Session

This extensive, five-week program offers students the opportunity to study in China and further familiarize themselves with Chinese culture. Additionally, MEI works with its partner universities to ensure that this experience helps students to develop or further their academic and/or career goals.

Location

MEI's Summer Session Program takes place in multiple cities within China. Students will have the opportunity to study the following locations. 2017 locations include:

Beijing: The premier city and current capital of China, it is home to the ancient Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Chengdu:  A historic city that currently serves as the capital of Southwestern China's Sichuan Province. It is home to panda sanctuaries and artifacts dating back to the 4th century B.C.

Shanghai: The most populous city in China, it is also the site of one of the world's strongest financial districts. The city resides in the coast of China where it serves as a centerpiece to China's growing economy.

Summer 2018 campus locations, dates and other important information will be published in Fall 2017.

 


Academics

Courses: Courses are instructed by MEI partner universities who also oversee and control all aspects of the academic program.  A wide variety of courses are offered each summer depending on faculty and student interest. A full course catalog for Summer Session is published each fall for the following summer. All courses are taught in English.

Transcripts: Transcripts are issued directly from our partner universities that instructed the class. Official transcript will be sent via mail to the students' home institutions and/or home address one week after the conclusion of courses. Additional copies of transcripts can be requested directly from their registrar’s Office. 

Support: MEI and its partners will provide academic support through the program. In addition, MEI offers career guidance and networking events throughout the summer to expose students to leaders in various industries including real estate, tech, medicine, banking, non-profit and more. 

Eligibility: This program is made specifically for high school juniors and seniors as well as any college-level undergraduate enrolled in an American university. It is open to American students looking for an experience abroad, international Chinese students who return home to China in the summer and local Chinese students who are proficient in English and are interested in taking an American course.

Experience

Cultural: As part of MEI's Summer Session Program, students will be provided with various immersion opportunities to discover Chinese culture and history first-hand such as taking Mandarin language instruction, traditional Chinese food cooking classes, tai chi lessons and more. Additionally, several excursions to local points of interests are planned. Please refer to the specific location for exact details.

Networking: Many Fortune 500 companies have established offices across China. As part of this program, students will have the opportunity to meet with leaders, CEOs and leaders from companies such as Intel, Bridgestone, Coca-Cola, Tap4Fun, Horae Capital Group, China Poly Group Corporation and more.
